Juanda Airport to be Equipped with High-Tech Border Security Technology
Immigration and border security teams at Juanda Airport, Indonesia, are to be equipped with high-level automated passport inspection technology as part of their drive to modernise the identity authentication process.
Operated by the Passenger Analysis Unit (PAU), security staff equipped with foster+freeman VSC document examination technology, will soon see a significant upgrade to the immigration arrival area where 18 autogate units are to be installed and tested in December 2024.
The plan to upgrade border security at Juanda International Airport has been in operation since 2023. The goal is none other than to ensure that the autogate system and document controls that will be implemented at Juanda International Airport can operate optimally and in accordance with international standards.
Juanda International Airport is a major international airport serving Surabaya, the second-largest city in Indonesia. It’s a bustling hub for both domestic and international flights serving approximately 15 million passengers every year.
Similar to other international airports, Juanda International Airport has immigration checkpoints where arriving and departing passengers undergo passport and visa checks.
Border control in the country is operated by the Directorate General of Immigration (Ditjen Imigrasi) who rely on VSC technology to examine, interrogate, and authenticate all questioned travel and identity documents.
