  • Fibres
  • Gunshot Residue
  • Accelerants
  • Shoeprints
  • Drug Residues
blood1blood2

Blood on black fabric
As blood absorbs all light in the bandwidth of 300-500nm, stains and spatter marks will appear black against light coloured backgrounds or on surfaces that fluoresce under UV, Violet or Blue light.

bruise
bruise

UV illumination
UV illumination penetrates skin more deeply than visible light making it is possible to see underlying bruising and bite marks beneath the surface of the skin.

semen1semen2

Semen on underwear
Body fluids including semen, sweat, saliva and urine are of high value to forensic investigators as a vital source of DNA, and can all be seen to fluoresce brightly under UV, Violet and Blue illumination.

tooth1tooth2

Bone & Tooth on soil
Even the smallest fragments of bone and tooth left at a crime scene will fluoresce under Blue, Blue/Green and/or Green illumination.

hair1hair2

Hair on bloody fabric
Some human and animal hair will fluoresce brightly under Violet and/or Blue illumination.

fibreAfibreB

Fibres on Carpet
Fibres can often provide a vital link between a suspect and crime scene or item of evidence with many high profile prosecutions having rested upon the discovery of a single fibre.
The entire range of wavelengths can all be used in the detection of fibres.

gsr
Gunshot Residue

The presence of GSR on a surface or clothing can be used to link a firearm to a suspect or crime scene while the analysis of its pattern of dispersal can help investigators identify where a shot was fired and in which direction. GSR and other explosive residues will fluoresce within the Blue – Blue/Green wavebands and also in the near infrared (700-1100nm).

accellerants
Petrol on white fabric

Traces of accelerant found at arson scenes may give an indication whether a fire was accidental of started with intent. Flammable liquids including Petrol, Diesel and Methyated Spirits can all be seen to fluoresce under Blue, Blue/Green and Green illumination.

cl2 shoeprint
cl2 shoeprint

White illumination
Intense white light applied at an oblique angle can greatly improve the contrast of shoeprints left at the crime scene. The ideal search tool for this application is the Crime-lite 82L.

meth
meth

UV – Violet illumination
Traces of some illicit drugs (including Cocaine, Amphetamines, Ecstasy tablets and LSD) can be seen to fluoresce under UV illumination. How much fluorescence is emitted from drugs under examination depends upon the purity of the drug and the additional ingredients that it has been cut with.

UV – Blue illumination
A fluorescent liquid fingerprint treatment commonly used to enhance the visualisation of fingerprints that have been fumed with cyanoacrylate.

nanoparticles
nanoparticles

UV or Green illumination
A recent (2003) development in fingerprint enhancement, nanoparticle fingerprint powder is comprised of glass like nanoparticles imbedded with fluorescent material. The ultra-fine nanoparticles produce prints with excellent resolution.

basic1basic2

Semen on underwear
Body fluids including semen, sweat, saliva and urine are of high value to forensic investigators as a vital source of DNA, and can all be seen to fluoresce brightly under UV, Violet and Blue illumination.

acid yellow
Acid Yellow

Blue illumination
A fluorescent fingerprint dye used to stain latent prints on nonporous surfaces. Under blue illumination fluorescence can be viewed using a 495nm filter

magnetic powder 1
magnetic powder 1

Blue illumination
Available in many different colours but most commonly black or red, magnetic powder contains iron to achieve a magnetic effect allowing it to be applied to evidence using a magnetic applicator in place of a brush – this is a clean dust-free method that also helps prevent damaging a print.

redwop can 2
Redwop

Blue – Blue/Green illuminationRedwop fingerprint powder (applied using a soft brush) was developed specifically to be viewed under Blue/Green illumination.
Greenwop was later developed to compliment Redwop powder and can be used when background fluorescence interferes with the examination of the red fluorescing colour.

dfo
dfo

Blue/Green – Green – Orange illumination
1,8-Diazafluoren-9-one, more commonly referred to as DFO, is widely used to treat fingerprints on porous surfaces.
DFO reacts with amino acids, fatty acids and proteins contained within the fingerprint to form a derivative that becomes excited under Blue/Green, Green, or Orange illumination

rhodamine1rhodamine2

Blue/Green illumination
A highly fluorescent dye stain with multiple applications including the visualisation of cyanoacrylate fumend fingerprints. Available in liquid or powder form, Rhodamine 6G can be excited with a blue/green light source.

Ninhydrin Colour
Ninhydrin

Green illumination
Used to develop fingerprints since the 1950’s, Ninhydrin (2,2-Dihydroxyindane-1,3-dione) is a chemical reagent that reacts with the amino acid within latent fingerprints to develop friction ridge detail.

Camera Attachment and Ruggedized Tablet PC for use with Crime-lite 42S UV-IR

Originally designed as a portable solution for examiners wishing to use the new generation of Crime-lite Infrared light sources at the crime scene, it was quickly recognised that by adding both UV and IR to the system, through the inclusion of a Crime-lite 42S UV/IR dual waveband light source, it would be possible to produce a unique search tool for viewing evidence beyond the visible at both ends of the spectrum

crime lite dual filter goggles
crime lite dual filter goggles

Crime-lite dual-filter anti-glare viewing goggles and camera filters  are essential for the examination and photography of fluorescent evidence and are supplied as standard with all Crime-lite 42S cased sets.

Designed specifically for use with Crime-lite 42S light sources, each pair of dual-filter anti-glare viewing goggles include two filters allowing the user to quickly and easily switch between illumination wavebands without the need to change goggles.

All anti-glare filters are manufactured from Schott glass with an additional coating to suppress auto-fluorescent emissions from the Schott glass itself, thus ensuring maximum optical performance when using high power light sources.

As standard foster+freeman camera lens filters are supplied with 62mm fittings, other sizes are available on request.

Designed for use with the Crime-lite 82S & 42S, the Crime-lite Viewing Box provides a simple solution to a long-standing problem.

When using a high-intensity light source for the examination of fluorescent evidence including latent fingerprints it is often the case that ambient light reduces the visibility of the print. The Crime-lite Viewing Box solves this problem by shielding the fingerprint from all ambient light ensuring optimum visibility. The Crime-lite Viewing box has pre-cut slots to accommodate foster+freeman anti-glare viewing goggles or an SLR camera. Accessories include a camera stand and lens bellows.

Available for use with all foster+freeman Crime-lites, this heavy-duty low-profile articulated arm allows for easy hands-free operation of high-intensity light sources.

Internal power cables can be used to connect the Crime-lite (and optional camera) to an AC mains power outlet without trailing wires.

Crime-lite’s are attached via an adjustable clamp.

Available for use with all foster+freeman Crime-lites but originally designed for use with Crime-lite 82S IR and Crime-lite ML2 systems (light source, camera, and tablet PC), this robust wheeled cart is ideal for use in forensic laboratories.

The cart is mounted on lockable castors and can be manoeuvred around exhibits. A two-point fixing plate allows for the easy attachment of a Crime-lite articulated arm.

An optional uninterruptible power supply can be used to power equipment with no trailing wires. When not in use the trolley can be connected to an AC mains power outlet to be recharged.

CSI Case
available in a variety of sizes for all Crime-lite forensic light sources.

CSI Case Trolley
for easy transportation of Crime-lite CSI cases.

Wrist Lanyard
