Earlier this year The Attorney General’s Office of the Mexican State of Michoacán reaffirmed its commitment to safety, legality, and the protection of citizens assets through the Vehicle Certification Module.

This preventive tool has been designed to detect and combat irregularities related to the theft or alteration of vehicles, offering interested parties the possibility to verify the authenticity of the vehicle before engaging in a transaction, providing a guarantee of legal certainty to those who wish to buy or sell a used car.

Making use of foster+freeman VSC technology, The Vehicle Certification Module identifies alterations and inconsistencies in vehicle identification, including serial numbers, license plates, and other official documents, while performing real-time theft report checks against municipal, state, and federal databases.

Following each review, a certificate is issued which guarantees the integrity of the identification numbers and absence of theft reports, providing key assurance to support purchases and sales.

The module aids in the prevention of fraud, protection of assets, and increased transparency in vehicle transactions, allowing those looking to purchase a second-hand vehicle to make safer decisions, and reducing the risk of acquiring vehicles with irregular legal records, avoiding economic or legal complications.

During the first four months of 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office carried out a total of 582 vehicle inspections, with 486 Certificates of No Theft Report and No Alteration of Vehicle Identification Numbers issued. 9 vehicles with irregularities were also detected, making it possible to stop their sale, protect those who would have been affected, and combat criminal activity.
