Recent VCU and VDEM Study Demonstrates Effectiveness of Crime-lite Technology for Detection of Skeletal Remains

A study by the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), published this year in the Journal of Forensic Sciences, provides an interesting assessment of the effectiveness of alternate light sources in the search for skeletal remains.

With an average recovery rate of 95% and search time of just over 30 minutes, the Violet Crime-lite used was shown to outperform other light sources used in both effectiveness and efficiency. While the range of handheld ALS devices were selected based on availability and to provide the necessary variety of wavelengths, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of Crime-lite technology for the detection of skeletal remains.

The study used the Crime-lite 42S, a versatile, dual-colour forensic light source, designed to provide high-intensity illumination in both crime scene and laboratory applications. Several devices across the Crime-lite range also offer violet illumination, including the powerful Crime-lite 82S PRO, versatile Crime-lite X, and revolutionary Crime-lite AUTO, a complete solution for the search, detection, and capture of evidence. Learn more about the our range of forensic solutions here, including our laboratory-specific devices.
