Wichita County DA’s Office and WFPD Enahnce Forensic Toolkit with Crime-lite AUTO
Wichita County, September 2025
Wichita Falls Police Department and Wichita County District Attorney’s Office have added a foster+freeman Crime-lite AUTO to their forensic toolkit. Jointly funded by the two agencies, this new acquisition will empower examiners to undertake crime scene analysis more efficiently, speeding up processes and freeing up valuable time.
WFPD Lt. Brian Sheehan described how the device will be used in bloodstain analysis, gunshot residue detection and latent fingerprint examination, adding that “it’s not your average point and shoot picture camera – it’s going to produce a digital image that is of forensic quality that we can use as evidence.”
Ashlyn Brunson, crime scene technician, who has received Crime-lite AUTO training, said the device will enable technicians to search, detect and capture evidence that might have been otherwise invisible to the naked eye.
DA John Gillespie described the AUTO as “cutting edge technology”: “It’s the kind of thing you see on TV we’re bringing right here to Wichita County”. He went on to describe how this new technology will provide the quality of evidence that juries now expect in criminal cases, as they have seen on television.
DA Gillespie added that the device will enhance law enforcement’s ability to collect evidence in murder, sexual assault and sexual abuse cases, due to it’s capability at visualising most bodily fluids. You can view the video feature on the News Channel 6 website here.
